Scarborough betters Windham in Middle School Football

The Scarborough Red Storm Middle School Football Team is off to an impressive start for their 2009 season opener.

Returning the open kick off to mid field, the storm then drove to the end zone.  The storm's defense got off to a rather

rocky start, as the Windham Eagles advanced deep into Scarborough territory behind the excellent running of Tony Taylor

only to be rebuked by the Red Storm's defense.

The score remained 7-0 in favor of Scarborough for most of the first half until the Eagles offense overtook the Red Storm

defense as Taylor scored on a long breakaway and added a two point conversion.  With only 25 ticks remaining on the clock,

the Storm had possession of the football on their own 25 yard line after a very impressive red zone stand.  Operating with no

huddle, the Storm executed two plays, culminating in a 50 yard touchdown pass from Greenberg to Ian Morris as time expired.

The two point conversion failed, but the Storm enjoyed a halftime lead of 13 to 8.

The second half was a much different story.  Fortified by outstanding offensive line play led by Michael Pino and Jacob

MacDonald and the tandem running attacks of Charlie Raybine and Dan Leclair, the Storm began moving the ball.  Just when

it would seem that a drive might stall, Coach Spino went to the arm of Ben Greenburg, and a host of talented receivers.  Alex

Cohen combined for critical third down conversion, and the Storm's next score was off of the arm of Greenburg into the hands

of Bryan Sargent for a 30 yard Touch down Strike.  Scarborough ’s scoring was rounded out by Jacobe DiPetro's 5 yard plunge

for 6 points.  Chase Damon was perfect on the day, with four point-after-touchdown kicks.

The Scarborough Jr. Varsity Squad also had an impressive opener defeating Windham 14–0.  Coach Spino said he was

extraordinarily proud of these young student athletes and that their perseverance, execution, and focus were impressive.

Still, he added that there was much work yet to be done.
