Scarborough Churns Out the Yards against York

The game started with the Red Storm mounting a 60 yard scoring drive completed by an 8 yard run by Kenny Adams, the extra point was added by Chase Damon.  Punts were exchanged and on Scarborough’s next possession, Scarborough’s tandem of Adams and LeClair scored again making it 14-0 Scarborough.  Early in the second period, York drove the ball 70 yds and completed the two point conversion, making it 14-8 Scarborough.  York continued to move the ball, on the next possession, Mike Pino tipped a pass, that was intercepted by Charlie Raybine and returned for a touchdown. Scarborough missed two point conversion, making it 20-14 Scarborough at the end of the first half.

The third quarter started with the powerful aerial attack of the York Wildcats as they gave Scarborough’s defense reason for pause. Line Backer, Brendon Smith stepped up on D, and stripped the ball from a York ball carrier turning the momentum back to the Red Storm and giving them the ball on the York 40.   Now, the Red Storm went to work behind the outstanding blocking of Scarborough’s entire Offense Line, Pino, Russell, Graef, and MacDonald giving quarter Ben Greenburg time to throw and holes for the backs to run, as the Red Strom began to take control of the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

On the defensive side excellent play by the Red Storm was shown by standout performances by Morris, Cyr, Cohen, Adams and Brian Sargent who’s refusal to quit on a play ended with Sargent chasing down the York QB over 60 yds from the opposite side of the field and made a touchdown saving tackle. The defensive effort was exemplified by Ben Greenburg’s return of 45 yds after an interception early in the 4th quarter. Chase Damon was perfect on the day with the extra points, 5 for 5

York’s Jr. Varsity team bested the Red Storm’s JV in close game ending 16 – 6.

Coach Spino said the final score was not indicative of the overall level of play and competiveness of the game until the 4th quarter.  Most impressive was the team’s character and sportsmanship as they never quit, stayed focused, continued to execute each play and were exemplary student athletes.  He also noted that he was very grateful for the outstanding line play that his head line coach Keith Fosler and his staff, Finley and Simons, have been able to develop and credited the game’s close outcome, in large part to this effort.
